Still the highest continuous thrust DPV available with unequaled precision speed control, it just got a lot more fun to dive. We added inlet guide vanes to the propeller that eliminate ALL<\/strong> torque at ANY<\/strong> speed. Since the toque is gone, we also reduced the handle height by just over an inch, as you no longer need the extra leverage. You can now control the DPV with only one finger at full power. Three clear polycarbonate inlet guide vanes at 3, 7 and 11 o’clock positions on the nozzle struts provide the perfect amount of force to eliminate torque from the prop.<\/h4>\n

\nAs always, the Genesis is still the only DPV with external recharging, so you don’t have to break the hermetic seal on the DPV every time you need to recharge. It’s also still the only DPV with single handed full variable speed control and a maintenance free magnetic shaft coupling, but the big changes are on the inside<\/strong>!<\/h4>\n

Introducing the Warp Core Battery system.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Genesis Warp Core solves the main problems with DPV Batteries. No longer do you need to rely on someone else’s proprietary battery packs when they eventually wear out. The Warp Core uses replaceable 18650 flat top cells available all over the world. It is made up of individual circuit board layers with 8 cells per layer (95Wh), stacked together for the necessary voltage and capacity. The individual layers are UN38.3 tested in both 2S4P and 1S8P configurations, meaning the DPV can be taken on passenger aircraft and checked as baggage with the batteries installed<\/strong>, after simply removing the jumpers between the layers. The batteries do not need to be removed from the DPV and hand carried, like power tool batteries. Finally, a real high performance travel scooter with serious range. …and we do offer a travel case for the smaller sized Genesis.<\/h4>\n

Additionally, the Warp Core has a Bluetooth app (Android only) that lets you check the charge of the battery as well as the voltage of each group of parallel cells. You can also monitor the charge\/discharge current and check cell temperature from your phone, along with a host of other features.<\/h4>\n

The Genesis 3.0 will now come in 2 sizes. The Gen 3.1 will have 850 Watt hours and be the same size and weight as the previous 600. (24″ long and 33lbs) Gen 3.2 will have 1700 Watt Hours and be about an inch shorter than the previous 1500 and under 50lbs. If you want to switch between 850Wh and 1700Wh batteries, additional layers can be added\/removed. You would just need the shorter or longer DPV body.<\/h4>\n

We don’t leave our loyal customers out in the cold with a new design. Current Genesis owners can have their DPVs refitted with the Warp Core, but it does require sending their DPV in for rewiring and other changes from the previous 2 battery system.<\/h4>\n

The advantages of the Genesis scooters are a combination of innovative design and proper engineering.  So let’s start at the nose and work back!<\/strong><\/h3>\n
<\/div>\n

External recharge connector<\/strong> – Rated for 10,000 PSI, it is the first of many features in the design that are best described as overbuilt.  There is no power at the pins when the charger is not installed so the pins will not short out if the cover is left off when put in the water or removed underwater.  Additionally, if the cover is not installed, the motor controller will not be enabled to run, increasing safety and stopping the quiescent power drain from the batteries.<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – By not opening the scooter body to recharge the batteries, the risk of seal damage and wear on the battery connectors from repeated unmating and mating is reduced. Additionally by not repeatedly opening the body, humidity is not allowed in to condense when the colder scooter is opened in a warmer, humid environment.<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n

Pressure and vacuum test port<\/strong> – Can also be used to vent pressure differentials from altitude changes.  The Genesis body can be tested for both vacuum and pressure since there is no shaft seal to vent out or spring latches to stretch open during pressure testing.  Standard SAE -4 port (same as a high pressure port on a regulator).<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – There is no need to spend hundreds of dollars on an extra tool for testing and should a leak occur, its location can be quickly determined with a bubble test under pressure.<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n

Plastic bumper on nose<\/strong> – Prevents damage to anodizing when placed nose down in tank racks on the boat ride out or when stood on the nose to remove the tail.<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – Better protection of corrosion control finish.<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n

Hard anodized 6061 aluminum body<\/strong> – No welds and no stainless steel.  Welding heat treated aluminum reduces its strength to almost half in the heat affected zone.  Having stainless steel fastened to aluminum causes galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals and crevice corrosion in treaded holes.<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – Stronger and much less prone to corrosion.<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n

Proper O-ring grooves<\/strong> – Two o-rings (same size) provide redundancy at the body to tail connection.  The grooves follow industrial standard dimensions to prevent over-compression that results in damage to the o-ring and premature failure. Other designs that clamp an o-ring between two flat faces or wedge it into a corner with a simple chamfer can quickly damage a seal when that o-ring has to react the entire crushing force between the body and tail at depth.<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – Longer seal life and reduced possibility of seal failure.<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n

Highly integrated tail section<\/strong> – The Genesis motor is shrink-fit into the aluminum tail cone, providing the most direct path to dump heat from the motor to the water.  The motor controller is also heat sunk to the tail cone and the Genesis can be run at full power continuously, even beyond the capacity of the 1700Wh battery, without overheating.  Every scooter is burn tested, non-stop at full power for one full battery cycle before shipping. The magnetic coupling eliminates the dynamic shaft seal, which is the most likely failure point on every other DPV currently available. Due to the magnetic coupling the motor bearings never experience axial loading and do not require replacement on a regular basis. The bearings for the propeller shaft are full ceramic with a 10,000 hour design life and the ceramic material is harder than almost any particles that may get in them, including sand. Additionally, the intelligent motor controller monitors battery voltage and will limit the power to 50% when the battery is at the last 8-10 percent of its capacity. (50% is still more thrust than most DPVs are even capable of)<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – More efficient and reliable design, eliminating the major leak point and requiring less maintenance.  Propeller can be removed in seconds and without tools to clear ingested fishing or spool line.<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n

Fully engineered propeller and nozzle design<\/strong> – The nozzle, propeller and motor were engineered to work together as a system for maximum efficiency.  A nozzle needs to be more than just a funnel for water flow and protection from the rotating blades.  The Genesis nozzle provides thrust, just like an airplane wing provides lift.  At full power static thrust, about 35% of the total thrust is generated solely by the pressure differential from the outside to the inside of the nozzle.  The streamlined design avoids turbulence that reduces thrust and causes the flow out the back of the nozzle to rapidly disperse.  The result is higher thrust at a given power and a flow column that stays consolidated longer enabling the DPV to be operated closer to silty bottoms or cave walls without disturbing them and reducing visibility. The nozzle is a foam material that adds buoyancy to the tail section, so that the body can be shorter and the nozzle outer diameter is 1.15 inches smaller, making a more compact DPV. The Genesis 600 can be fitted into a single shipping case that meets normal airline baggage restriction.<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – More efficient power conversion and less likely to disturb silt in a cave. Smaller overall size to fit through tight openings and easier to transport on passenger aircraft.<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n

One hand operation of all controls<\/strong> – The ON-OFF trigger, trigger lock and speed control can all be operated with a single hand. The trigger can be easily locked OFF for safety or locked ON for long cruises with a flick of the finger. The variable speed lever is easily operated with the thumb on the fly instead of having to reach for an adjusting knob on the body.<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – Easier to operate.<\/h4>\n
<\/div>\n

Infinitely variable speed control<\/strong> – Any speed can be set and the motor will gently accelerate up to that speed instead of jerking the diver when the trigger is pulled. The speed can be adjusted from zero to 100% while moving and there is a sufficient dead band at zero speed that acts as a second safety to locking the trigger OFF. No missed shifts or multiple clicks to get to the speed you want and it is easy to dial in the exact same speed as your dive buddy.<\/h4>\n

Advantage<\/strong> – Easier on the diver at start-up and more controllable with redundant safety features.<\/h4>\n
